Hello and welcome
to Poplars

At Poplars Nursery in Leyland we all understand and appreciate how difficult it can be to leave your child in the care of others. We would therefore like to assure you that we strive to create a family atmosphere whilst providing opportunities and experiences that support your child with their social, emotional and developmental needs.

Poplars is located in its own secure grounds with car park.  The children’s areas are all at ground floor level and each age group has access to our large and exciting outdoor environment.

Upstairs we have staff facilities, an office and a meeting room which can be used by parents and visiting professionals.

We have a professional kitchen where our healthy and nutritious meals are prepared by our in-house cook.  We are happy to cater for children with differing dietary requirements and of course, adapt the menu to suit all stages of weaning for our youngest children.

We have built valued partnerships with local schools and teachers are invited to Poplars to help aid children’s transitions to school.

We are very proud of our staff team who have a wealth of childcare experience between them.  All are qualified to at least level 3, and have paediatric first aid, food safety and safeguarding certificates along with regular in-house and external training.

We have an open house policy so please browse through the website but do come along and see us at your convenience.  The only thing that we ask is that you try to avoid the lunchtime period between 11.30 and 1.30 – this will enable us to ensure you have the time required to see what life at Poplars is all about and ask any questions that you may have.

MISSION STATEMENT

To enable us to provide children and their families with the best possible care and opportunities for development we:

  • Value parents/carers as a child’s primary and most important educator and build trusting partnerships with them
  • Invest continually in our premises and resources
  • Value our staff and invest in their training and development
  • Promote Safeguarding
  • Work alongside expert agencies
  • Build and maintain close links with schools, health organisations and other childcare providers

About Poplars

At Poplars Nursery we aim to create a caring, exciting and stimulating environment, where your child’s natural curiosity and willingness to learn will thrive. This will provide a foundation from which future opportunities and interests will grow.

Our primary aim is to ensure the happiness, well-being and overall development of the children in our care. We have created an inclusive environment where each child’s individual needs are recognised and met, and where he or she can feel safe, nurtured and encouraged to develop their full potential.

We are extremely proud of the staff team within the nursery, who are passionate and support the quality of the environments that we create for learning to take place. They are extremely dedicated and hard-working and their approach strongly reflects the ethos of Poplars, including: individuality, mutual respect and learning through play. All of our children enjoy nursery life immensely and, with the support of their parents, they contribute hugely to the calm, friendly, community atmosphere that we have developed at our setting.

I’m Sarah and I joined Poplars in May 2017. I have 4 years experience in the childcare sector, having worked in a variety of settings with different ages. I have previously enjoyed working in a pre-school and reception class within a school and also within a breakfast and after school club with 3 – 11 year olds.

I am currently enrolled on a Foundation Degree course and have finished my first year in Children, Young People and their Services.

I have 2 children of my own, a boy and a girl, who keep me very busy, along with studying for my course and working in the Butterfly room here at Poplars.

Sam

Sam

Joint Leading Practitioner, Bluebird Room - CCLD Level 3

I have recently joined the Poplars Team and settled into my role as childcare practitioner with the 2-3 year olds. I studied at Runshaw College and gained my level 3 in Childcare. I embarked upon a career in a different sector, but came back to childcare to fulfil my love and interest in working with young children.

The most rewarding part of my role is watching the little ones learn and develop and build friendships with other children.

I have 3 brothers and a sister and am Auntie Sam to 3 wonderful little nephews, who ensure that I’m surrounded by fun and laughter even when not working.

With my Primary Educuation background, I look forward to helping children gain confidence in becoming school ready. I have experience working with children with a range of different needs and abilities and look forward to bringing my experience and knowledge as well as new ideas into the Poplars family.

Outside of nursery, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends. I have recently taken up my passion of dancing again and have a love for all things theatrical.

I have worked within the childcare sector for 20 years in different settings and roles, from being a nanny to working in a nursery setting. I came to Poplars in 2005 and established myself as a key member working with the oldest age group.

I find it so rewarding to be a part of the children’s development and I enjoy helping equip them with key skills to prepare them for their next stage of learning. As a key person, I enjoy getting to know my children well and providing activities and resources that support them in achieving learning goals.

Joint Leading Practitioner, Bluebird Room - Foundation Degree EY Education and Care

I started my childcare career as a part-time playworker at an after school club in Leyland. This led me to enrol at Runshaw College to complete my NVQ Level 3 in Childcare. Further down the line, I completed a Foundation Degree in Early Years Education and Care.

The most rewarding part of my job is providing the tools necessary for children to learn and develop through their play and imagination and reach their full potential. I feel privileged to be a part of their big adventure into the world.

Outside of Poplars I have a few hobbies and interests which involve spending quality time with my family, travelling and seeing the world. I enjoy live music concerts, tropical fish and indulging in my ‘big kid passion’ of all things Disney!

Kelly

After gaining my NNEB at Preston College, I worked in a Primary School in Preston as a classroom assistant and also as a Special Support Assistant. After 13 years I moved to join the Poplars Team as a Childcare Practitioner. I enjoy my role and I find it rewarding to watch the progress that the children make.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking and mountain biking in the Lake District.

Jan

Jan

Deputy Manager - NNEB

I was brought up in Euxton and attended Balshaws High School and later Tuson College where I spent 2 years working towards the NNEB qualification. Once I had completed this, I came to work at Poplars and 30 years plus later, I am still here.

As the Deputy Manager, I use my many years of experience to help motivate and support the team whilst taking on board new ideas and initiatives from younger and newer members of staff. I enjoy supporting the team in giving our children the highest quality of care and education.

Over the years, I have had many children in my care and am now in a unique position where I am caring for children of children I cared for many years ago. They come back to Poplars with fond memories and strive to ensure their children have the same experience.

Outside of Poplars I have a keen interest in gardening and walking. I enjoy travel and look forward to holidays in the UK and abroad, especially the Greek Islands.

Hayley

Hayley

Nursery Manager & SENCO - Early Years Professional Status . . . .BA Hons

Having left university with the initial intention of having a year off before embarking on a teaching career, I fell into the world of travel and business management . . 8 years later, having had my own 2 children and watching them grow and develop into lovely little humans, I decided to leave the industry and become a part of helping other lovely little people grow and develop.

I can honestly say it’s a pleasure to be at the forefront of such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic team, who constantly strive for the best in every child. As the EYP, I have specific interests and knowledge in curriculum initiatives, progress and tracking and staff development.

At Poplars we are honoured to play such an important role in the care and education of the future generations and I feel privileged to work alongside the many lovely families who entrust their little loved ones with us.

Outside of the Poplar’s family, I enjoy my own family life with my Husband, teenage daughter and son, which often centres around football and socialising with friends and family.

Leading Practitioner, Butterfly Room - CCLD Level 3

I have worked at Poplars now for over 13 years. I have worked with the various age groups and am now enjoying my role as the Leading Practitioner in the Butterfly room. The thing I most enjoy about my role is that it is so rewarding to watch a child develop new skills and grow in confidence in readiness to take the next step to Primary school.

I have a particular interest in the Communication and Language area of the EYFS. The ability to read, write, listen and speak in a way that allows people to communicate effectively is very important and I enjoy looking at ways to promote these skills in the room.

Outside of nursery I am a Mum to my grown up son and I generally enjoy walking, reading, exercising and spending time with my family.
